Food for Free

3 July 2013

We took the group to Ormsgill quarry in Barrow, where they discovered how many plants around them were actually edible. They completed a quiz where they had to identify a plant and decide if it was edible or not. We had prepared some edible plants prior to the session, such as honey suckle, pint clover, nettle soup and elderflower cordial, which they all got the opportunity to taste. The group even tried sandfire grass and seemed to like it. Throughout the session the group were on the lookout for butterflies and after a few games they got to design and create a butterfly of their own.
